The Minority Leader in Parliament has said the consistent crime rate in the country should serve as a wakeup call in ensuring proper policing for Ghanaians.
Haruna Iddrisu's comment follows the gruesome murder of the Mfantseman MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford at the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim road.
"I just cannot fathom how you file your nomination form and on your way home, that ends it. This must be a rude awakening to reform proper policing in Ghana", he said.
He added that it was the sole desire of Parliament to have all its members safe as the December polls approaches.
The Tamale South MP said whoever is behind the gruesome act must face the full wrath of the law.
"Armed robbers have stolen the life of our colleague...Ekow Hayford always with a joyful smile across the aisle while serving the people of Mfantseman.
"The only way we can eulogise Hayford is for justice to be seen served," he relayed.
The Minority Leader in Parliament urged the police to improve the general security of all Ghanaians.
Sympathising with the family of the bereaved, Mr Iddrisu said the family should accept the passing of their beloved with fortitude.
"All heads are together behind the Speaker of Parliament to express our profound sympathy and condolence to the family for this unacceptable loss.
"We mourn with you as a family and Parliament as an institution mourns with you."
According to Mr Iddrisu, it is not out of place to increase security for MPs in Parliament.
"We are devastated with grief and following that a colleague-member of parliament J.B. Danquah was murdered sometime in 2016.
"It is not asking for too much if we say that MPs personal protection be elevated and enhanced for purpose of securing our lives. At the appropriate time, we will seek public support guided by the Speaker to demand enhanced policing".
