Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has warned teachers in the country against voting for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama in the December polls.
Speaking at the NPP Volta Region Teachers’ Network, themed, “With Nana in our classrooms we have performed better,” the Minister stressed that bringing back the Mahama government would only spell doom for the teaching profession.
For him, teaching and learning under the Mahama government was appalling due to the bad decisions initiated under his administration.
“Teachers are the largest group on the payroll, and for four years [under the Akufo-Addo government] there has not been a teacher demonstration or strike. That in itself, should send the NDC into the bush, because they were managing well.
“They never managed leadership. They exercised power but never worthiness. For four years under their administration, not only did we have ‘dumsor’ which in itself means teaching and learning cannot happen, we had strike upon strikes,” he stated.
Dr Opoku Prempeh then added, “Because the worse policies ever, since Ghana was founded happened under 2012 to 2016.”
The Manhyia MP further asserted that, the NDC’s promise to cancel the teacher licensure examinations and mandatory National Service should they win the 2020 polls is false.
“When it comes to teacher licensure examinations and the mandatory service, what they say and what they have written in the manifesto is aimed to deceive you again,” he said.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Achibald Letsa, on his part indicated that the education sector in his region has witness an improvement under the Akufo-Addo government.
“We have a success story to tell, we have a lot of things to tell the people, in order for them to give us four more years to do more for the country,” he said.
