The Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) has described as unfortunate, recent attacks on the Electoral Commission and its boss, Jean Mensa.
Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso's comment comes on the back of statements by former President John Mahama that the EC cannot be trusted to deliver a credible election.
Mr Mahama in an interview with Woezor TV on Sunday questioned the competence of the Commissioners of the electoral management body.
The NDC candidate for the December 7 election accused them of deliberately re-assigning persons who can deliver on the job because they worked with the former Chairperson of the EC.
He also warned that his party will not accept flawed election results.
But touching on the development, Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso urged former President Mahama to desist from such comments.
“It is rather unfortunate that most often, especially during elections, we try to take on our institutions which have been created to strengthen our democracy.”
“I am not against him [Mahama] expressing his opinion, but the person must know that his actions and utterances must not undermine our democracy," he said.
According to the International Relations expert, it was also important for various institutions to be allowed to go about their duties without any form of intimidation.
This, he stressed will strengthen the country's democracy.
"A strong democracy is when the institutions are allowed to work and we must not paint them black to the people,” Dr. Antwi-Danso added.
