The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that a total of 631 polling stations have been identified as hotspots in 18 constituencies of the Volta Region.
According to the Volta Regional Deputy Operations Commander, Supt Isaac Baah, the Ketu South Constituency topped the list with 85 hotspots, while the North Tongu, Ho West, Anlo and Ho Central constituencies have 73, 67, 54 and 44 spots respectively.
Speaking at a training programme on crime reporting organised by the Police Service for selected media practitioners in the Volta Region, he added that Hohoe and Agortime Ziope Constituencies were identified to have 37 and 39 hotspots, while the rest had between 29 and 12.
Supt Isaac Baah assured the police had already mapped out a strategy to prevent or curtail violence on December 7 across the region to ensure a peaceful elections.
He detailed that operational teams will be formed under each of the 6 divisions to man the region, which would be divided into North and South sectors during the general elections.
He added that two standby patrol teams would be sanctioned and stationed at the Regional Headquarters to rapidly response to backup calls from any of the 6 divisions.
He said that prior to the day of the elections, mobile patrol teams and plain cloth officers would be deployed across the region to gather intelligence on any planned chaos and violence to disrupt the polls.
Supt Isaac Bah further stated that a team of police, fire service, prison and immigration officers would be stationed at the various polling stations to provide security and maintain peace and tranquility during the voting exercise.
"Patrols will continue after the elections so as to curb any unforseen circumstances", he assured.
