Interior Minister, Ambrose Derry, is asking retired Police officers to actively engage in helping to maintain peace before, during and after the December 2020 polls.
His call comes on the back of what many have described as heightened insecurity, with random suspected robberies recorded especially in parts of Northern Ghana and the Ashanti Region.
Besides addressing Parliament on the security for MPs, the Interior Minister is yet to address the security concerns raised by a section of the public.
At the commissioning of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) Hotel and Office Complex last Friday, the Minister said government backs the Police Service to ensure peace but also calls on the retired officers to help.
“You will appreciate that this year is an election year and as the Chair of the Council presiding over the Police Service that is tasked with maintaining law and order.
"Government will support the Police administration to ensure a peaceful, transparent and peaceful election.
"We urge all retired officers who have varied experiences to also help us all preach peace before, during, and after election 2020” he appealed.
