Renowned Cyber Security & Digital Forensics firm, e-Crime Bureau was on Friday November 13, 2020 recognised by industry players and awarded the ‘Cyber Security Company of the Year’ at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.

Receiving this prestigious award for a 3rd consecutive time at the 10^th Edition of the Ghana Information Technology & Telecommunications Awards (GITTA) 2020 duly identifies the e-Crime Bureau brand and sterling work that has impacted various industries, institutions, stakeholders, stakeholders and individuals within the cybersecurity ecosystem.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic in putting such events together, Instinct Wave, organisers of the GITTA Awards made its 10^th anniversary a significant event by recognizing work by other players from industries including financial, fintech, telecommunications, among others.

The prestigious award scheme seeks to recognize and celebrate organisations and individuals for their exceptional work and championing technology innovation that has contributed significantly to Ghana’s digital future and economy.

In his address, the CEO of Instinct Wave, Akin Naphtal, indicated that although Covid-19 has taken the centre stage, impacting negatively on all sectors of the economy, it has ironically created a paradigm shift in our digital space augmenting a tech transformation in all business sectors.

Speaking to a cross-section of the media at the event, the Head, Business Operations of e-Crime Bureau dedicated this year’s award to the hardworking staff and consultants for remaining true and dedicated to the driving values of the Bureau which includes Integrity, Confidentiality & Security, Commitment & Loyalty, Customer-Centric Approach, Results-Oriented Culture.

“This is a very significant milestone as the Bureau marks its 10^th year of existence in 2021 and are happy to have, through the e-Crime Academy, contributed in building capacity of several individuals including graduates who are fresh from the University and professionals who have seen value in our varied cyber security and digital forensics certification programmes” Mr. Debrah emphasized.

Mr. Debrah added that, “the Bureau has successfully rolled out comprehensive vulnerability management solutions including the Cyber Essentials Certification Programme that are scalable and customizable to every industry or firm to address the everyday cyber-attacks and system compromises which have become a burden for many Management Teams. Our home built Cyber Threat Intelligence Portal is set to address the issue of proactive intelligence gathering that many IT Teams have been calling to stay proactive against cyber-attacks.”

The Bureau has over the past year seen immense contributions from their collaborating partners such as MTN Ghana, Judicial Training Institute (JTI), the KAIPTC, the Institute of Internal Auditors, among others by supporting programmes and initiatives that have helped to address pertinent issues of mobile money fraud, capacity building of members and awareness on cybercrime issues.

For institutions to remain successful and competitive, dealing with all forms of cyber-attacks will be issues they will be confronted with and will be required to put in stringent strategies to prevent any damaging impact on brand reputation, financial losses and stakeholder confidence.

Therefore, the ability to deal with cyber-attacks targeting people, technology and processes to a level that makes activities of cybercriminals more difficult for a successful compromise should be the topmost priority of every enterprise.

It is important to recognize the significant strides the country continues to make in the area of digitization as well as sanitizing the cybersecurity ecosystem with appropriate legal and regulatory frameworks such as Parliament of Ghana’s recent passing of the Cybersecurity Bill which creates a very important springboard to ensure compliance by all institutions to international best practices and cybersecurity standards as well as carefully enhance and measure the level of cyber resilience to improve upon cybersecurity readiness and incident response mechanisms and strategies.
