The Office of Administrator-General is mounting pressure on various government agencies to retrieve handing-over notes needed to facilitate a smooth transitioning of power after this year’s election.
The Presidential Transitions Act 845 (6) passed and assented in 2012 requires that handing-over notes from the Presidency, ministers, departments and agencies are presented to the Administrator General’s office not later than 30 days to an election.
But with just 12 days to the 2020 polls, Director of Administration at the Office, Alhaji Yakubu revealed to Joy News that some ministries are in breach of the constitutional provision as only 80 percent of MMDA’s and other agencies have submitted their transition notes.
He stated that the process to retrieve the handing-over notes was started in February this year but as yet, about 20 percent of government departments and agencies are yet to comply.
“There are some ministries that are yet to comply. We’re are encouraging them to commit fully. We are requesting six hard copies and six soft copies. It will be a huge disappointment from any minister who will fail to comply,” he noted.
Mr. Yakubu also added that the Office has sent a report to the Chief of Staff detailing the Ministries that have failed to submit their notes for further action.
Meanwhile, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, during an earlier interview indicated that the requirement has been satisfied, as all Ministers had been instructed by the Chief of Staff some three months ago to prepare and sign-off their handing over notes to be submitted to the Civil Service Structure.
