The Electoral Commission (EC) says all the political parties were in support of its proposal to the Ministry of Interior and Chief of Staff to make Monday, December 7, a statutory holiday.
According to the EC, the proposal is to “give registered voters the opportunity to devote the day to exercise their civic right."
In a statement issued by the Commission and sighted by JoyNews, the latest development is said to have been agreed upon during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on December 2.
The election management body also revealed that “there was also a consensus for registered voters to be encouraged to cast their ballots early on December 7.
Giving more details, the Election Commission said the IPAC meeting had in attendance representatives of all the political parties, Civil Society Organisation’s (CSOs), and development partners.
