The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah has said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is set to undertake a rewiring of all markets in Accra.
This follows after an outbreak of fire at the Kaneshie Market in Accra in the early hours of Sunday, December 20, and a series of fires at Odwana and Kantamanto Markets in Accra.
According to the Chief Executive of the Assembly, the actual implementation of the rewiring work is to commence in February which all market leadership fully aware.
“A full presentation have been done to all market leadership in October about when the actual implementation will start,” the Mayor said.
Mr Sowah said the AMA will continue to work to protect lives and property at the Kaneshie Market.
He further stated that the facility's management and AMA have decided to provide temporary stations for the 9 affected shops as they deliberate on a plan towards securing capital to get their businesses back on track.
“Management and AMA have decided to give those nine shops an alternative shop from tomorrow whiles Management will rebuild those nine shops in the course of the week or two.
"And because they have also lost their wares, we are also planning on how to support them with some capital so that they can also be on their feet,” the AMA boss explained to JoyNews Sunday.
