MP-elect for Asawase Constituency, Muntaka Mubarak says the 2020 election petition presented by John Dramani Mahama against the EC and Akufo-Addo will strengthen Ghana's democracy.
"I belong to the group that keeps insisting that regardless of whatever it is, let us go to court.
"Some of us believe that democracy gets strengthened through this process. Forget about the outcome, whether the outcome goes well for you or not, it adds to the democratic credentials of the country," he noted.
Speaking to JoyNews' Evans Mensah in an interview, Muntaka Mubarak made claims that the appointment of Supreme Court judges by President Akufo-Addo may interfere with the delivery of justice.
"11 out of the total Supreme Court judges were appointed by Nana Addo and people think this is nothing. In our history, we have never had the Supreme Court go beyond 15. As of March when we were vetting, we took the numbers to 19 and no one said anything in this country."
He, however, is hopeful the Supreme Court judges will be rational to do the right thing in assessing the 2020 election petition.
"I want to believe that our judges will be rational. They will have to be mindful of the consequences of whatever decision they take. I want to believe that they will do the right thing."
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama Wednesday, filed a petition to challenge the 2020 Presidential election results declared by the Electoral Commission's (EC) Chair Jean Mensa.
His action follows several statements by the party as it described the EC's verdict as flawed and fictitious.
Muntaka Mubarak is resolute that the evidence in possession of the NDC would change the Presidential election results "even if President Nana Addo sits at part of the panel."
"Whoever thought Malawi could ever have a rerun for the opposition to ever win it. Whoever thought in Kenya, the court would say 'the evidence before us is heavy, we can't allow this injustice," he added.
