The Ghana Medical Association has called for an urgent scale-up of Covid-19 testing to break the chain of transmission of the virus in Ghana.
This follows the sharp increase of the virus’ infection after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
According to the Ghana Medical Association, the increase in positive cases are as a result of “the total disregard for, and the lack of enforcement of all relevant Covid-19 preventive protocols and the importation of cases from other countries via travellers”.
It has therefore asked that "Covid-19 testing should be made free or relatively cheaper for the ordinary Ghanaian who needs testing as a result of direct exposure or when symptomatic for Covid-19".
Additionally, it has asked the various stakeholders in the health sector "to relaunch and intensify education on all necessary Covid-19 protocols", and further asked that adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) be made available to all health facilities.
While commending the media for the effective public awareness given to the dangers of the disease, it tasked the Law enforcement agencies to ensure that all Covid-19 protocols were complied with.
The Association further entreated the general public to take their personal safety into their hands and to adhere strictly to all Covid–19 safety protocols.
