The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is in the process of identifying some structures on water ways for demolish.The announcement follows the weekend floods in parts of Accra which is said to have claimed seven lives and destroyed several properties.NADMO argues that though floods are natural occurrences, they are often caused by human activities especially the citing of unauthorized buildings on waterways.Public Relations Officer of NADMO retired Major (rtd) Nicholas Mensah told Joy News recommendations have been made to assemblies and the Local Government Ministry to pull down structures on waterwaysMeanwhile in the Ashanti Region, hundreds of buildings in the Atwima-Mponua District have been destroyed.The homeless are currently seeking refuge in some school buildings and sheds built by NADMO.Member of Parliament for the area, Isaac Asiamah, told Joy News the extent of damage could rise after NADMO completed its study of the disaster.He called for government to come in and support the displaced families.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com
