Some traders at Dr Mensah Market in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have called for a shift system at the various markets in the region.
This, according to them, will play a vital role in curtailing the spread of Covid-19 in markets.
Their comment comes to endorsement indication by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) of reintroducing a shift system of trading as Covid-19 cases increase in the country.
They fear the poor adherence to Covid-19 protocols at the market could escalate the spread in the region.
Unlike previously, traders have stopped the regular hand washing under running water from the Veronica buckets stationed at vantage points.
The wearing of face masks and that of the social distancing protocol are also problematic in the market.
The traders believe the only solution to curtail the spread of the virus at the market is a total lockdown.
