The Employment Minister-designate Ignatius Baffour-Awuah has revealed that three million jobs were created as of September 2020 under the Akufo-Addo government.
Taking his turn for the vetting of nominees by President Akufo-Addo, he told Parliament's Appointments Committee that although he does not have the complete data for 2020, he was sure of the number of jobs created.
"On May 1, 2018, I indicated that the government of Nana Akufo-Addo had created approximately one million jobs,"
The Sunyani West MP said although he does not have the exact figures as of 2020, quite a number of jobs were made available to Ghanaians by government by 2020.
"The last time we reported on was in September 2020, and then the figure was around three million jobs," he said.
According to the legislator, he is not aware of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia's statement on August 13, last year saying two million jobs has been created.
Ignatius Baffour-Awuah stated that what he officially knows is that three million jobs have been created so far since Akufo-Addo took office in 2016.
"I have officially turned out the three million jobs and I’ll be prepared to defend the three million at any point in time," he added.
Although some members of Committee were dissatisfied with his response, Mr Baffour Awuah said he will make the documents available to them after the vetting.
He stated that it will include details of the jobs which were created in the private sector as well as the public sector.
