American designer Matthew M Williams is best known for being the brains behind the label 1017 Alyx 9SM, as well as being the creative director of Parisian luxury house Givenchy.
For sneaker-heads, he's also recognised as one of the best trainer designers on the planet.
Case in point: the Illinois-born designer masterminded one of the superlative Nike silhouettes of the past 12 months, the Zoom MMW 4.
Taking on the shape of military vehicles, the futuristic sneakers come with chrome silver overlays, a visible Zoom Air in the midsole and innovate Pebax carbon-fibre plates, which work to improve a wearer's run.
Furthermore, for Alyx he has designed some spectacular kicks, with the Alyx Indivisible arguably being a standout performer.
The super-sleek trainers, which debuted during the label's Spring/Summer 2020 catwalk show, come in a triple-black colour-way, feature a robust Vibram sole and make us weak at the knees.
Now Williams has dropped his first pair of sneakers for Givenchy, which are exemplary of his sneaker craftsmanship.
The Giv 1 is constructed from a blend of luxuriously supple calfskin leather, mesh and canvas and features nubuck overlays.
Underfoot, the trainers have a tread made up of multiple Givenchy 4G emblems, while that same logo has been subtly printed on the outer. Who said logo-mania was dead?
Additionally, the streamlined Giv 1 comes in three colour-ways and constructions: black mesh with a translucent yellow sole; a black crocodile-effect embossed leather version; and cream mesh with that same yellow rubber sole.
Available to buy at givenchy.com and doverstreetmarket.com for £795, the Giv 1 is, we reckon, the first of many Williams-designed sneaker silhouettes to come during his tenor at Givenchy. We'll be wearing ours with Williams' famous three-toed socks.
