The high cases of covid-19 recorded at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is an indicative of a robust testing system, aviation expert, Sean Mendis has revealed
The Frontiers Healthcare Service (FHS) has raised an alarm on the increasing number of positive covid-19 cases being recorded at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Speaking to Charles Ayitey on the Market Place, Sean Mendis remarked that; “Ghana’s challenge now is the pretesting failures which could be addressed if the country could attach specific laboratories for testing, so passengers will not have to be having test results from scattered laboratories”.
Already, there are calls for Ghana to effect some travel bans on countries with high cases of covid-19 – a move Sean Mendis describes as “troublesome”.
He is however proposing that government partners IATA and Africa CDC for a digital framework to verify covid-19 test results at the KIA.
“Signing on to the IATA Travel Pass Initiative and Africa CDC Trusted Travel will help Ghana improve on her digital verification system without having to shut borders or too many troublesome impediments including banning travels,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the aviation economy could come under threat again following the rising numbers of covid-19 cases.
Some aviation experts fear the rising cases could erode gains made after the further easing of covdi-19 restrictions.
The aviation economy was one of the hardest hit during the peak of the covid-19 pandemic, growing negatively last year. Its effect on the tourism sector was very dire.
