Chief Executive Officer of Special Ice Limited, Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong says growing up, his career interests were geared towards the sciences.
Speaking with Lexis Bill on Personality Profile, the business mogul revealed that his objective was to be a medical doctor, a reason he studied Science at Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Legon.
However, he stated that those dreams were short-lived following his parent’s decision to make him a part of the family business after his days at the secondary institution.
“My idea wasn't to get into the field of entrepreneurship. I did Science in Presec. I wanted to become probably a medical doctor or something. You know the family then had its own line of business - the import and export trade and all that so I became acquainted with that.
“After PRESEC, I went into business but whiles I was doing that I did a number of courses,” he said.
According to Dr Sarpong, he had a father who supported him and his siblings to chart their own path and their desired career.
However, he noted that from time to time, they were being guided to make the right decisions.
For Dr Sarpong who also owns Special Investment Limited – a real estate business, his decision to halt his dreams for the Sciences and veer into business is not regrettable.
“I don't have regrets…. When you are young and you take a decision, it is a decision of what you wish you'd be. But sometimes it could be that is not the best of decisions,” he added.
Speaking about his childhood, he noted that although he had a privileged upbringing, he was trained with the virtues of honesty and dedication to work as well as lending a helping hand to the needy in society.
“To a certain extent, I had a privileged upbringing. They could afford the good schools and a bit of the luxury that is why I went to Presec. I went to one of the best schools.
“My parents taught me to be honest in life, to be dedicated when it comes to working and also to have that power of sharing when it comes to humanity. I have always had that passion to share with people what I have,” he narrated.
