The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has made a clarion call on the citizenry to assist government in developing the country to a level that will be conducive for all.
At a press briefing Sunday, he stated that although electorates have elected people in power to do specific jobs, nothing will be achieved if they are not supported.
Thus, in his view, for Ghana to work, all and sundry must contribute their quota.
Citing Nehemiah 2:18, the Finance Minister told campaigners of the #FixTheCountry that, “Let us #FixThisTogether and save lives for our country.”
“You elected us and we will work with you to fix Ghana,” he added.
For a week now, timelines on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms have been flooded with images and videos of aggrieved Ghanaians youth articulating their plight and the need for improved management systems by successive governments.
The users have amplified sentiments such as rising youth unemployment, inefficient health systems, the skyrocketing cost of rent, poor road networks, among others, which they say are hurting their standard of living.
They have, therefore, resorted to a virtual protest to call on government to #FixTheCountry.
Responding to their request, Mr Ofori-Atta has assured the protesters of government’s commitment to heed to their demands.
The Finance Minister who was speaking on the topic, ‘Rebuilding the Ghana’s Economy’ indicated that processes are still being implemented to provide all Ghanaians with a satisfactory standard of living.
“The President asked us to be a citizen and not a spectator, you have elected us to solve the problem that faces this country, we will continue to work with you and other stakeholders to do just that.
“We acknowledge that as a nation we need to do more to ensure decent incomes to all Ghanaians,” he said.
