The Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, Senyo Hosi has welcomed the appointment of the new CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid.
In his new role, Dr. Abdul-Hamid, a former Minister of Inner-City and Zongo Development, will superintend the regulation and monitoring of the downstream petroleum industry in Ghana for efficiency, growth and stakeholder satisfaction.
His appointment takes effect on July 1, 2021.
“Congratulations to Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid on his appointment as the new CEO of the National Petroleum Authority,” Mr. Hosi said. “On behalf of the board and members of CBOD, I welcome him to his new role, as we look forward to working very closely with him to optimize the contributions of the downstream petroleum industry towards the development of a viable national economy.”
Dr Abdul-Hamid takes over the top job at the NPA from Hassan Tampuli, who is now a Member of Parliament for Gushegu in the Northern Region.
He previously served as a spokesperson to then presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo from 2008 until 2017. Prior to that, he served as the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute and was also a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast.
The National Petroleum Authority was established by an Act of Parliament (NPA Act 2005, ACT 691) to regulate the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana.
As a regulator, the NPA works to ensure consumers receive value for money and that the industry remains efficient, profitable and fair.
