Parliament has approved a request by the government for an additional $200million loan from the World Bank to fight Covid-19.
According to a Finance Committee report sighted by JoyNews’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo, $137.15million out of the amount, will be spent on vaccine procurement.
The Committee’s report stated that the vaccine to be procured, is expected to inoculate about 7.6 million people.

“The committee was informed that each dose of the vaccine is estimated to cost US$10.55,” parts of the report reads.
The report added that, “this financing would provide improved access to affordable and equitable Covid-19 vaccines, strengthen the system for effective deployment as well as enhance preparedness and response to the Ghana Covid-19 strategic preparedness and response programme.”

"This is aside $100million and $130million loans taken from the World Bank for the Covid-19 Emergency Preparedness Plans 1 and 2 last year," parts of the report reads.

Among other interventions, the report revealed that part of money will be spent on case detection, contact tracing, recording and reporting and containment, isolation and treatment of Covid-19 cases.

The government is also expected to use some of the money to support vulnerable groups in the society including, persons affected by gender-based violence and persons with disability.
