Three persons are being tried at the Ho District Magistrate Court for unlawfully possessing three foreign pistols and 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition, concealed in a false compartment of a Toyota Corolla with registration number, AC 1621-18.
The suspects are; Nervis Otu Laryea, aged 33 years, Ebenezer Osei, 38 and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, 37.
They were arrested by the Rapid Deployment Force patrol team on July 6 on the Kpando-Have road. Aside the firearms, the suspects were found with two Toshiba laptops and 27 smartphones tagged with prices.
The 27 smartphones with two hoody pullovers were discovered in suspect Muntaka Mubarak’s bag, which he claimed he obtained from an unknown person in Alavanyo. He was, however, unable to produce receipts covering the phones.

The Volta Regional Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng, explained that suspects Nervis Otu Laryea and Ebenezer Osei, claimed they do not know suspect Mohammed Muntaka, but only offered him a lift on their return from Alavanyo.
He said that suspect Ebenezer Osei, explained he had visited Alavanyo for Spiritual assistance in his business.
“Further investigation revealed that the Toyota Corolla with registration number AC 1621-18 was also acquired by suspect Nervis Otu Laryea at Afienya from someone from Togo, without the documents”, he added.
DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng assured the public of the Police's commitment to combating crime and appealed for a healthy collaboration to enable the Police to fish out miscreants in the society.
The suspects have been remanded to continue assisting the Police in its investigations and asked to re-appear on the 22nd of July, 2021.
