The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has received 60 laptops to support some needy students.
The gesture feeds into the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative known as ‘Support One Needy Student with One Laptop’ (SONSOL) which solicits the support of all stakeholders to provide one laptop to such students.
The laptops donated by KEK Insurance Brokers Limited is valued at GH¢174,000.
In February 2021, the university gave out 593 laptops.
At the presentation ceremony, Managing Director of KEK Insurance Brokers , Shaibu Ali said the gesture forms part of the company’s social and corporate responsibilities.
He pointed out the ideals of the initiative resonates with the vision of the late founder of the company, Kwesi Essel Koomson.
“After his death at a prime age of 58, we set up 3 foundations to take care of the underprivileged in the society.
“Every year, we take out 41 percent of the profits into this foundations,” he revealed.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson thanked the company and appealed to other organizations to contribute towards the project.
“We hope other organizations will look at what you have done and do more,” she said.
