The Head of Corporate Services of SIC Life Insurance Company has said there is a need to support the country’s blood banks with voluntary blood donations.

Albert Bahun-Wilson's comment follows the rampant rate of road accidents leading to deaths and injuries in the country.

Adding his voice to the call to corporate entities and other individuals to voluntarily donate blood to save lives, he indicated that many people, including pregnant women and children.

He said the timing is crucial, especially in the time of Covid-19 and rampant road crashes resulting in many injuries are in dire need of blood to survive.

Mr Bahun-Wilson said it is time to put all hands on deck to support the exercise.

He, therefore, disclosed the Company’s support for the insurance regulator’s resolve to make the ongoing blood donation exercise by the Insurance Industry an annual affair.

He stated donating blood to save lives was in line with the work of SIC Life, which provides insurance to assist people they insure as there can be no insurance if there is no life to insure. 

“As a leading insurance company in the country, SIC Life decided to organise this exercise with their Management and Staff in support of the campaign of the entire Insurance Industry championed by the National Insurance Commission (NIC).

“All our staff and Agents across the Regions were also taking part in the exercise as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, Mr Bahun-Wilson disclosed to the media.

The exercise formed part of a nationwide programme by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) in collaboration with the National Blood Service (NBS) to help with voluntary donations to re-stock the blood banks, which are fast depleting.

The situation further aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic has become worrying as the number of voluntary donors has drastically dwindled.

On the day SIC Life organised this exercise, six other insurance companies, namely Enterprise Insurance, Enterprise Life, Glico Insurance and Glico Life Insurance, Quality Life Assurance and Activa Insurance Companies, also had their employees massively turning up in their numbers to donate blood.

The blood donation exercise is held every Thursday at designated centres across the country, and it is expected to end on October 14, 2021, for this year.
