Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country will, from 2022, begin the implementation of the dual vocational training akin to what is being run in Germany.
This follows several state-sponsored observation trips to study the German TVET model, which fuses a mandatory industry-based internship with students' theoretical training in school.
The German TVET model fuses a mandatory industry-based internship with the theoretical training students receive in school.
At a brief ceremony to inaugurate a new board for the Commission of Technical, Vocational Education and Training, Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum tasked the members to ensure the rollout of the dual vocational training system by next academic year.
"We have to begin to look at creating internship programs to take students from classrooms and puts them in the field of work", he said.
He continued to say, "your task is to ensure that the German dual TVET system which we have gone to experience is finally implemented in this country".
The delay in implementing the dual training system is in spite of a five-year strategic policy of the TVET Commission, which requires the implementation in Ghanaian TVET institutions.
But in an exclusive interview with Joy News on the sidelines of the inauguration of the C-TVET board, Director-General of the TVET Commission, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, said the commission is working to begin the rollout by 2022.
"So we have started with the initial works to roll out the dual system. The curriculum is being finalised with the help of the industry.
"Right now, we are registry firms that will be on the program to receive the students", Dr Kyei Asamoah said.
