The two shortlisted bidders for the Ghana Burkina Faso interconnectivity railway project have submitted their final proposal on the over one thousand kilometres project.
The two international firms, African Global Group and Frontline Advisors will be competing for the contract which is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2022.
Minister for Railways Development, John Peter Amewu assured them of government’s support and transparency in choosing the most competitive bidder.
The project from the Tema Port to the capital of Burkina Faso is aimed at connecting the two African countries and promoting intra African trade on the continent.
After submitting the proposals, both governments will set up a committee to scrutinise and make decision on the best choice for the project.
At a ceremony to officially handover the proposals, the Minister for Railways John Peter Amewu assured the government of Ghana is very committed to the project and will ensure that all timelines are met.
“As we have being doing from the beginning and assuring you that we as both countries will be transparent till the end of this process. We want to choose the best firm to deliver the project and not friends or people we have for one reason or the other known them or not. Both governments are committed to this project and want value for money” he noted.
The Bidders also expressed confidence that all the necessary procurement will be done timely for the project to take off.
They also used the opportunity to thank both governments for the process reached so far on the project.
The rail line from the Ghana side begins from Mpakadan where the ongoing construction of the railway line from the Tema port terminates along the Volta Lake.
