Run For a Cure Africa (RFCA) has noted that this year's annual Run For a Cure Africa 5K fundraiser run to support breast cancer awareness and treatment goes virtual on October 30.
According to the non-profit organisation, this decision is part of measures to curb the spread of the Coronavirus disease.
Participants are expected to register by dialling *380*22# on all networks or visit www.runforacureghana.org to join the run.
On October 30, patrons will start at their own locations and end as champions. The aim is to drive awareness and also raise funds for breast cancer patients in Ghana.
Meanwhile, participants are urged to take pictures and videos to share on various social media platforms by tagging Run For a Cure with the hashtag #ITTAKESATEAM.
Reports say breast cancer is 98% treatable if detected early. Late-stage breast cancer detection in Ghana is attributed to the negative social stigma of the disease in society, lack of awareness, education, and access to health services.
RFCA has been working for the eradication of breast cancer in Ghana since 2002.
The organisation creates awareness through community education, identifies women who need support and takes them through the various stages of breast cancer treatment.
It has donated mammogram machines to the St. Martin de Pores Hospital, Ekwe in the western Region and Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital, Abor in the Volta Region.
