The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the country is facing employment challenges because of some decisions taken by the previous administration.
According to John Boadu, the erstwhile Mahama government agreed to some terms and conditions proposed by the IMF, which are inimical to developing the country's youth.
Speaking at the Volta Regional NPP Delegates Annual Conference in Ho, he said, “yes, there are challenges in employment, and it is because of what we inherited”.
“If you have a government that can not have integrity in its projects and programs and will just surrender the country to IMF, and accepts conditions that are inimical particularly to the employment of our youth for close to five years,” he added.
He detailed that the various employment modules implemented by the Akufo-Addo government are not enough to absorb the backlogs.
“Even the NABCO that we brought that has taken close to 100,000 people is not enough; the youth employment programme is not enough”.
He, therefore, indicated that the government seeks to tackle the employment challenges through industrialization, hence the introduction of the 1 District, 1 Factory programme.
He added that President Akufo-Addo is making “enormous efforts” to ensure the programme's success to create jobs for the masses.
“Last two weeks alone, President commissioned seven brand new industries”.
He said the country would have seen improvement in job creation should successive government establish at least 7 industries each term in office.
