Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has accused government of failing to pay contractors who have been assigned to work on various roads in the Madina constituency.
He has said that all efforts to get the government to fix roads in the constituency have fallen on deaf eyes.
The MP has led constituents in a demonstration on Monday morning to register his displeasure and force relevant authorities to act.
Addressing the protestors, who were predominately clad in red, Francis-Xavier Sosu charged residents in the area to come together in the fight for better roads.
“It looks like the government is taking the people of Madina for granted. Wherever you are, all those at home and those going to work, we are sorry for the inconvenience but let the pain of your inconvenience be visited on the government”
“Dear government, pay the contractors so they can work on the road. This is not about politics; it is a community development issue. We are telling the government that enough is enough. They should come and fix our roads,” he said.
The protest march is moving from Amrahia to Ayi-Mensah.
Road users in the area have been left stranded as the protestors have blocked sections of the Ayi-Mensah, Danfa, and Otinibi roads.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly, Jennifer Dede Afagbedzi, has already criticized the MP for embarking on a demonstration.
In an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, she said lawmakers contribute to an area’s development through lobbying. Therefore, it is unfortunate for Francis-Xavier Sosu to protest to get the needed infrastructural projects for his constituents.
“Respectfully, we all know how Members of Parliament play a key role in lobbying their colleagues to bring development. And you come in, and you cannot boast of one meter of road, and your easy way of this is a demonstration.
“It is very unfortunate, and we need him to do better than that,” she said on Tuesday.
