CEO of Websoft Solutions Limited has called on the youth to stop chasing money when it comes to penetrating the job market.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show Tuesday, October 26, 2021, BigGodwin Martey advised the youth to intern at companies and gain experience without expecting a paycheck.
"Young people don’t want to serve. They want the glory. They don’t want a story. You can’t get there that way, especially in our system. You must sacrifice. You must lay the red carpet, let people walk on you for a while. You need it. It’s your springboard. You just don’t jump into somewhere".
Sharing a personal experience on the show, he said that he worked at Koforidua Polytechnic for free for about 8 months.
In hopes of owning his law firm one day, Mr Martey said that he decided to pursue a law degree, which he completed recently.
Even though he has not yet been to the Ghana School of Law at Makola, for the professional programme, he said in order to make that dream happen, he has decided to work for free for a year at a law firm as a paralegal, to understudy his superiors.
"You have to do it. In fact, they’re doing you a service. In fact, you should pay them," he emphasised.
"If I come to Joy FM and I say I want to come and work here for free, I’m supposed to be paying you, because the experience you would give me, I can’t quantify it.
"You can make all the excuses to fail. And I don’t want to wake up when I’m 75 and be explaining to my kids that the reason why their life is the way it is, is because I didn’t have transport to go to Joy FM to intern. I will trek. I’ve trekked for too many times in my life," he encouraged the youth.
