Government has made funds available to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for works to begin on the KNUST Teaching Hospital.
The project, which started over a decade ago, had stalled due to a lack of funds.
University authorities have been making calls, appealing to the government for assistance to complete the 800-bed capacity hospital.
Last year, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, pledged his government’s commitment to completing the project.
Speaking at the launch of KNUST’s 70th-anniversary celebrations on Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, announced that works on the project were going to commence soon.
Acknowledging the efforts of the President, she said that funds had been secured from the government “to begin the completion of the first phase of the KNUST Teaching Hospital.”
The first phase of the project, according to Prof. Dickson, will “make the OPD and administration block available.”
Prof. Akosua Dickson expressed hope in the full completion of the Hospital.
The KNUST Teaching Hospital, when completed, is expected to become a leader in medical and healthcare training in the country.
Valued at about $125 million, the project is being executed by the College of Architecture and Planning of the University, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Trust Fund.
The project covers a land area of about 71 acres.
