As part of the latest edition of Joy Prime Explore, the team visited Princess Town in the Western Region. The small town is a 45-minute ride from the regional capital.
The team, determined to learn every detail about the village, visited one of the monuments left behind by the Europeans when they came to the shores of Ghana.
Princess Town, once known as Pokesu [Po-kε-zυ] to wit ‘in the forest’, hosts the only German fort in Ghana, Fort Fredericksburg.
The name of this fortress was to honour the German Prince, Frederick William I, Elector of Brandenburg, after it was constructed in 1683.
The once-ruined fort was partially restored when former President Kwame Nkrumah used the place as his official residence when he visited the Western Region in 1964.
And ever since, it has become a guest house for tourists who wish to spend the night in the town.
