Midfielder Samuel Bekoe has become the latest Ghanaian to switch nationality following his decision to represent Sierra Leone ahead of Ghana.
Bekoe has chosen to play for Ghana’s West African neighbours after receiving massive backing from fans from his club and people from the country.
The midfielder, nicknamed “Eto’o” made a move to Sierra Leone outfit FC Johansson in 2019 as he looked to enjoy regular playing time.
His time in the Sierra Leone has been a smooth ride for him so far as he has earned the support of the club’s fans while also convincing people in the country with his stellar displays week in and week out.
With a call from Ghana looking far beyond him, the player has now decided to switch his nationality and play for Sierra Leone.
Bekoe is expected to okay a part for the West African side during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nationals in Cameroon in February.
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has confirmed that the process to capture the midfielder has been completed and the 24-year-old will put on the colours of the Leone Stars.
According to the SLFA, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has also been informed of Bekoe’s decision to switch his nationality.
Bekoe, who grew up playing football around Town Council Line Park in Accra, featured for Inter Allies during the 2019 Ghana Premier League before been invited for trials with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.
He becomes the latest to switch allegiance following the decision of Santa Clara defender, Kennedy Kofi Boateng to represent Togo.
