Stakeholders in the Fintech space have underscored the need to prioritise data in the development of the country’s economic prowess.
This comes in the wake of the government’s drive towards digitisation as a national agenda.
On the back of this, Director for Arkel Consult & Management Services Limited sees the role of fintech as crucial to making this commitment a reality.
Financial inclusion in Ghana has been a source of worry for experts over the past years as a huge chunk of the country’s population remains unbanked.
With the inception of technologies such as mobile money services among others, Martin Awaga insists that fintechs are in a strategic position to bridge the financial inclusion gap in helping businesses to use technology to enhance or automate financial services and processes.

“We need to realign focus on how to leverage data for economic growth,” he said on Tuesday, November 16.
He made these comments during a media briefing ahead of the 2021 Ghana Fintech Outlook Report.
Also speaking at the virtual event was the Director for Abjel Communications, Adisa Amanor-Wilks who drew attention to technological disruptions and their advantages especially during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Against this backdrop, she wants the upcoming report to be “a benchmark for us in Ghana, the entire continent and even by extension, to the world.”

“So that if someone wants to know what the fintech sector is like in Ghana, they can take this report and be able to decipher what is going on,” she added.
The 2021 Ghana Fintech Outlook Report is expected to be launched on November 19 at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Accra.
The initiative introduced in 2020 is geared towards educating the Ghanaian masses on how to transform the financial status through digitisation and give businesses a competitive advantage.
