AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he will honour his promise of buying Felix Afena-Gyan 'expensive' shoes after the teenager scored his first goal for the club at Genoa on Sunday.
Afena-Gyan, who was introduced in the 75th minute, gave Roma the lead before doubling his tally with the final kick of the game.
After his first goal, he run to the touchline to celebrate with Mourinho. The Portuguese coach reveals he told the Ghanaian he will honor his promise of buying him the shoes he wanted.
“I had promised to buy Felix the shoes he really likes, which are really expensive, they cost €800, so he ran over and told me not to forget! Tomorrow morning, the first thing I do is buy him the boots."
Mourinho promoted the 18-year-old to the senior team in October and says the striker will continue to train with the senior team.
"I am sorry for Mister De Rossi and the Primavera squad, but Felix will stay us. The Primavera work close to us, so Felix and another four or five players have come across to the senior squad.
"You get these kids who think they know everything, but he is humble and you can sense he just absorbs all this information from everyone around him. That's fantastic," he added.
The former Inter Milan coach was full of praise for the young striker and highlighted his mentality after the victory.
"What impressed me the most was his cool head in front of goal. If he is not in terms of technique fantastic, he does have a strong mentality."
