CEO of JA Venture Capital, John Armah, has asked government to hormonise the 'YouStart,' initiative aimed at bridging the unemployment gap, with existing programmes to ensure its sustainability.
He was contributing to discussions on JoyFM's Super Morning Show, on Thursday, November 25, 2021, which centered on initiatives announced in the 2022 budget.
Mr. Armah believes that with existing infrastructure such as the Business Resource Center in place, "it is possible for government to roll out this across the country with the infrastructure that they've built over the period but there must be harmonisation."
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, as part of the 2022 budget presented to Parliament, announced that government intends to create 1million jobs through the 'YouStart' initiative.
He stated that ‘YouStart’ is a vehicle for providing young entrepreneurs access to capital, training, technical skills, and mentoring to enable them to operate their own businesses.
Mr. Armah lauded government for bringing on board such an initiative, however, he also entreated the government to factor already existing businesses into the programme such that they are supported in a way that they contribute to the creation of the 1million jobs.
