The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare says pursuant to President Akufo-Addo’s declaration of December as vaccination month, the Ghana Health Service will be going into a full campaign mode to vaccinate as many Ghanaians as possible.

According to him, currently, vaccination centres are not only stationed at health facilities but are now being set up in marketplaces, lorry parks, churches, mosques, etc.

This, he said, is to ensure that more Ghanaians are vaccinated to avoid the emergence of a fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare said this on JoyNews’ Newsfile Saturday, when the panel was discussing the latest efforts put in place by government to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

The Presidential Advisor stated that currently, there are about 17 million doses of vaccines in circulation in the country, and 10 million more doses are expected to arrive early next year, thus the best time to get vaccinated is now.

“And the Ghana Health Service is also moving into a campaign mode. We’re very good at giving vaccination to our children, we can vaccinate about 4million people in a matter of five days. So we’re moving into a campaign mode that will see the team moving from area to area.

“In fact, the Ashanti region has even started 'house to house' vaccination so, this is the way we are about to go. So that every Ghanaian who is supposed to be vaccinated can get the vaccine that they need,” he said.

He further hinted at the President announcing a vaccine mandate "most probably early next year to ensure that those who miss out during this vaccination month get vaccinated."

This comes at a time when the government of Ghana has announced a blanket ban on all unvaccinated adults who wish to travel into the country.

Ghanaian citizens and residents abroad are exempt for up to two weeks but will be required to get jabbed upon landing at the airport.
