The presiding member for Wenchi Municipal Assembly, Samuel Mensah, has called for tighter measures to help generate, mobilise and protect revenue for the Assembly.
He underscored the need for cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders within the municipality to put up an effective internal control mechanism to block revenue leakages.
He lamented the Assembly's revenue mobilisation and financial performance regarding property rate, fees, rent and licenses, adding “the shortfalls in capital investments and revenue mobilisation must be fixed."
The presiding member was speaking at the Wenchi Municipal Assembly’s 3rd Ordinary Meeting of the 2nd Session of the 8th Assembly in the Bono region.
In the near future, Mr Mensah hinted the house will demand performance appraisal from revenue heads to enable the Assembly to match income with expenditure.

"We cannot always come to this house to approve fees and charges and go back to sleep whilst some revenue heads and collectors continue to abuse the system, depriving the Assembly of the required resources to operate.
Most commercial and residential developers do not acquire the necessary permits and by extension do not pay the fees,” he stated.
The PM urged the building inspectorate and other concerned departments of the Assembly to step up and help rake in the needed revenue.

The measures, according to him, will play a critical role to guarantee the speedy and sustainable development of the Wenchi Municipality.
Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Alexander Obour Damoah, stated as of October 31, 2021, the Assembly generated ¢731, 910.17, representing 77.5% of the budgeted revenue of ¢ 944,900.

Similarly, ¢ 735, 521.33) representing 77.8% of the budgeted expenditure of ¢ 944, 900.00 had been spent.
He assured the Assembly of his commitment to effectively collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to fix the revenue shortfalls adequately.
