Ghana is aiming to become the best cyber security country in Africa from its current position of 3rd.
This will help open more doors for investments in the digital space and improve investor confidence in the economy
According to Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, this target is achievable, based on the significant investment government is putting into the cyber space.
She made the assurance in a speech to inaugurate an 11 member Governing Board of the Cyber Security Authority in Accra.
The Cyber Security Authority under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has been charged by government to safeguard the country’s cyber space.
This positioned Ghana as the third best country in Africa with robust cyber security systems.
Speaking after the inauguration of the 11 member Governing Board, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful challenged the authority to strive hard to achieve the new target.
She therefore urged the board to support the authority because the country cannot sustain its achievement in the digital eco-system without cyber security due to the rising online attacks.

“We cannot simply sustain our digitalisation efforts without cyber security. Cyber-attacks could undermine our gains in digitalisation. It could undermine our social and economic well-being and consequently, our national security.”
“Therefore, the government, within the last five years, has taken our cyber security development seriously and the establishment of the Cyber Security Authority is one of the critical milestones achieved.”
Progress made in the last five years in our cyber security development has been remarkable and this has placed Ghana 3rd on the African continent and 43rd globally in the latest Global Cyber Security Index (GCI) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The Ministers of National Security and Defense and the Acting Director General of the Cyber Security Authority are some of the members of the Governing Board.
