Some students of the University of Ghana (UG) screamed in excitement when Political Science lecturer, Prof Ransford Gyampo, was spotted riding a yellow quad motorbike on the campus.
The incident which happened over the weekend saw the students surrounding the outspoken lecturer amid repeated screams and chants of his name.
Prof Gyampo, who doubles as the Secretary of the UG chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), beamed with smiles and waved at the students while taking in the praise-singing from his students.
Some of the students who were going on a procession sat on the ground in the pathway of the motorbike as the lecturer slowed down in order not to injure himself or anyone.
The affable lecturer noted for his friendly student-lecturer relationship is the Director of UG’s Centre of European Studies.
He has been vociferous in issues of national interest, especially on matters about the welfare of university lecturers.
Since the beginning of the strike by UTAG, Prof Gyampo has been actively involved in discussions on mainstream and social media concerning the industrial action.
