This week’s edition of ‘CHANGES’ on Joy Prime TV was exciting, educative and revealing.
It featured popular marriage counsellor, Rev. Charlotte Oduro and the discussion was centred on how to prepare for marriage.
Growing up, the outspoken Counselor believed she has tasted all sides of life, so she understands most of the problems in relationships or marriages.
Contrary to the desire of men to know the past relationship life of their partners, she has advised women to desist from the act of explaining every bit of their past relationships to the present partners.
She told Roselyn Felli on ‘CHANGES’ that it is normal to reveal certain things about the past relationship when it pops up in a conversation but shouldn’t be an everyday chat.
“There is no need for that: when we are walking together, and something pops up, we can talk about it but not just sit there and start discussing the people you have dated before. So why are we visiting the past?” She answered the host with a question.
“If you want to know the person, then build the future together. The past is irrelevant because there are some people; if you tell them about the past relationship, you lose them because they are not matured enough to handle it,” she added.
According to her, marriage involves sacrifice and dedication, so the partner must be ready to let go of all things for the beauty of the union.
Also, marriage has no style, but it revolves around proper communication geared towards the future, not the past.
“In the journey of marriage, partners need to communicate to know and understand each other. In addition, marriage is about maturity and preparedness,” she added.
Concluding, she hinted every matured and prepared person doesn’t need a long time to know their partner. The deliberate act of people wasting a long time in relationships to know the partner should be discouraged.
