Chief Executive Officer of Charter House, Theresa Ayoade, has advised Ghanaians to take it upon themselves to be ambassadors of our culture.
She spoke as a pundit on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday, March 19, while discussing how to strengthen cultural and creative industries for national development.
According to her, it is imperative to portray creativeness by using culture as Ghanaians to tell their stories.
She emphasised that this must begin with understanding one's culture's very origin and essence.
Mrs Theresa Ayoade spoke about the importance of learning and placing value on one’s culture.
“No one can be a custodian of a culture apart from yourself…as Ghanaians, we have our own local languages as well and I think we haven’t owned that aspect of ourselves as Ghanaians and worn it with pride”, she elaborated.
The Charterhouse CEO encouraged Ghanaians to learn from other Africans who wear their culture with pride.
This, she suggested, can be achieved by learning about our culture, living it and passing on the knowledge to successive generations.
She mentioned that “we ourselves as Ghanaians need to be the first custodians of our culture and it starts from the home."
“What do we know about our culture, and how are we even bringing up our children in our culture?” she quizzed.
Mrs Ayoade believes by paying closer attention to various cultures each Ghanaian can contribute immensely to national development.
