A dog named Fezco was dumped at an animal shelter in North Carolina by his former owners because they thought he was gay after he humped another male canine, HuffPost reports.
Fezco, who is an unknown breed and either four or five years old, is currently being held at Stanly County Animal Protective Services in Albemarle as he awaits to find a new home.
The ASPCA considers thrusting to be a normal behaviour exhibited by most dogs. The act of humping isn’t limited to other dogs and can be extended to other animals, people, and even nearby objects, such as a dog bed or toy.
There are instances where a dog will become aroused and excited when meeting a new person or dog for the first time and respond by mounting them.
Puppies have been known to hump their littermates as a way of practising for future sexual encounters. It is also common for female dogs to hump other females when one or both are in heat.
All of this is to say that a male dog thrusting another male doesn’t automatically make the dog gay, and even if Fezco is gay, that isn’t an acceptable reason to return him to an animal shelter.
According to TMZ, applications for Fezco are already flooding in. After all, who wouldn’t welcome a dog in their home that has been described as equally friendly with other people and animals?
