Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Clement Apaak, has assured that the Minority in Parliament will reject the Electronic Transaction levy (E-levy) Bill despite the "surprising" move by the Majority to have it considered on Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, he noted that the controversial Bill has been listed on the order paper and to ensure its passage, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, is in the Chamber..
The Minister's presence today convinced Dr Apaak that "certainly, the process will be activated."
According to information reaching JoyNews, Minister of State in charge of Finance, Charles Adu-Boahen, has also been sighted on the floor of the House.
For Dr. Apaak, the Majority's smuggling move as described by Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu, will not surmount the efforts of the NDC MPs.
"137 NO votes against E-levy stands, no retreat no surrender, " Dr Apaak wrote.
The Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini, who has also condemned the action of the incumbent government assured of a rejection of the Bill.
In his post, Mr. Suhuyini wrote: “Well, the Minority MPs are here too. So the Black Stars are on their own in faraway Nigeria. The President is leading us to focus on E-Levy. So we move.”
According to him, the discussion of the E-levy Bill on Tuesday shows the President is not concerned about the Ghana-Nigeria FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff happening today at Abuja, as many Ghanaians assume.
"Our President doesn't seem to be interested in a Black Stars victory as a birthday gift. I'm informed he requested the passage of E-levy as a birthday gift. Almost all of his MPs are here in the House," he added.
