A registered Dietician, Dede Kwadjo has urged Ghanaians to make regular exercise part of their diet plans if they want to achieve the desired weight loss.
According to Dr. Dede Kwadjo, the best way to get rid of the excess calories in the body is through metabolism, and regular exercise helps speed up the rate of metabolism.
Speaking on Joy Prime with Roselyn Felli on Tuesday, she said: “One has to be comfortable with a diet plan and be sure of sustaining it for months because the person will still gain weight after following a diet plan for a short period. A diet plan works perfectly when coupled with exercise since it helps one to burn more calories."
She added: "Weight loss and gain revolve around caloric consumption and expenditure. Simply put, you lose weight when you consume fewer calories than you expend and you gain weight when you consume more calories than you sweat."
Dr. Dede Kwadjo further noted that the journey to losing weight is a complex task because putting on weight itself is a complex biological and physiological process that occurs with time.
She advised that before getting a diet plan, one needs to have a sustainable exercise plan as well as stay healthy.
Adding to this, Dr. Kwadjo said a good diet plan can be achieved through self-examination. "This will enable you know the particular foods to avoid for a short or long period," she said.
