Asset declaration by public officers has been an issue of contention in the country for sometime now.
This is in spite of the provisions of Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution and Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act.
The issue has been brought to the front burner once more since it emerged, through a report by The Fourth Estate, that late Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie did not declare his assets before taking on the role.
It followed the publication of his will in which state lands, including several acres of land situated in the Achimota Forest and Ramsar sites in Sakumono, have been distributed to his relatives.
It is for this reason that asset declaration is important as it promotes transparency and accountability among state functionaries.
On the back of this, JoyNews will host the former Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo on Upfront this evening.

He will highlight how the refusal of public officials to declare their assets is harming the country’s development.
Mr. Domelevo will also touch on issues concerning flooding and corruption.
The programme will be broadcast live on TV and streamed on all of JoyNews’ social media handles at 6:00pm prompt.
