The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has launched 7 Apps to promote the digitalisation of its administrative and educational processes.
The mobile and web applications include; the KNUST Academic Info Manager (AIM) App, an online Transcript system, and a promotion Application system.
Others are; an online Timetable Management System, a feedback App, Alumni Connect Web Interface and TekScholar.
The main provider of ICT services in the University, UITS, developed these apps.
The initiatives are in line with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson’s digitalization agenda.
Commenting on the Apps, Prof. Dickson was optimistic the University will be able to meet the technological expectations of the country.
“The entire nation and the globe are looking up to us for innovative technologies to solve everyday problems of humanity and we dare not fail them,” she said.
Director of UITS, Emmanuel Afful, noted their collaborations with many government institutions feed into the government’s digitalization agenda.
“We developed this system in-house. Because we’re an educational institution, we believe in open sharing of information.
“We have therefore collaborated with many government institutions to promote the government's digitalization agenda,” he said.
The Apps
Promotion Apps
With this system, KNUST staff will now apply for their promotion online and submit all relevant documentation electronically.
These documents would be processed electronically through all defined stages including assessment by External Assessors.
Feedback App
Staff, Students, Alumni, industry partners and guests can all give their feedback to assist the University to improve on what we do.
TekScholar App
This provides a dashboard for viewing the research performance of all academic staff on our KNUST campuses.
It provides a summarized bird's-eye view of performance indicators like publications by subject areas, international collaborations, citations, etc.
Timetable Management System
This provides a scheduling platform for generating lecture timetables.
Venues on the system are tagged with GIS coordinates such that students can use mapping software such as google maps to obtain directions that guide them to their classrooms in real time.
AIM Mobile App
This App has been redesigned for optimal performance on both android and iOS.
This App allows our students to pay their fees, register for their courses, check their marks, assess their lecturers, download fee details, receive university notifications and announcements, collaborate, access their timetables, etc., all from the palm of their hands.
Online Transcript App
Using the Online Transcript App, all Alumni can simply visit KNUST’s online transcript portal and apply for their transcripts and pay for the same online.
Alumni Connect Web Interface
This is a web-based interface that seeks to draw us closer to our cherished Alumni.
With this app in place, our cherished Alumni will be able to connect, interact with each other irrespective of their location, make relevant payments, undertake mentorship sessions with our students and be part of the bigger KNUST family in real time.
