The Deputy Finance Ministers, Abena Osei-Asare together with John Kumah have received a petition from the Arise Ghana demonstrators on behalf of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Abena Osei-Asare while receiving the petition by the demonstrators thanked the police for providing security during the exercise.

Responding to some of the demands by Arise Ghana, she said “government has already started meeting relevant stakeholders to see how best we can address this economic situation that has arisen as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“On Monday, government with the relevant Ministers met with some important stakeholders on the rising food prices. Government will continue to meet all the relevant stakeholders and make sure that we come out with policies and programmes to address the issues you have raised here today,” she noted.

Abena Osei-Asare assured the protestors that the Ministry will further take action to address their concerns.

“We will make sure that the Minister also receives the petition and do whatever is necessary to address the concerns that you had raised. Let us continue to live in peace and guide the peace we have jealously…we are in this together and together we will make things happen,” she noted.

One of the leading members of Arise Ghana, Bernard Mornah who presented the petition to the Deputy Finance Ministers called for the scraping of the Electronic Transaction Levy.

He said government must take pragmatic steps to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians.

“We call on the Ministry of Finance to take steps to scrap the obnoxious e-levy that is imposing more hardship on the people of Ghana and siphoning their capital and above all confiscating our savings.

“That the Ministry should take urgent steps to ensure that inflation is brought down to the barest minimum…that government should do everything possible to arrest the deteriorating cedi,” he said.

The second day of the protest ended with a petition to the Speaker of Parliament and the Finance Ministry.
