The Minority in Parliament is alleging that the government's fight against illegal mining is discriminatory against Ghanaian citizens.
According to a ranking member on the Mines and Energy Committee, John Jinapor, some 'galamsey' operators who were arrested on a concession belonging to AngloGold Ashanti were tortured without being taken through the due legal process.
Speaking to pressmen, the Yapei-Kusawgu legislator explained that some suspected miners, who were picked up on the fields of one of the mining firms on June 15, were subjected to torture.
In that regard, he communicated the Minority's readiness to ensure that such cases of abuse under the Akufo-Addo-led administration are accounted for.
"This flagrant disregard of our laws and Constitution under the Akufo-Addo government is most unfortunate and must be roundly condemned in the strongest terms possible," he added.
According to John Jinapor, the government is treating foreigners who are destroying the country's water bodies with kid's gloves.
They are also demanding an independent probe into the alleged torture of the Ghanaian citizens who were arrested on AngloGold concession.
