The Gambia's Central Bank says there's no need to panic after a data hack.
Sources allege the hackers managed to access the bank's most sensitive files, but in a statement the Central Bank said no mission-critical systems were compromised, and that normal operations have continued unabated.
It did however say one server was affected, which was promptly isolated from the bank’s network and a recovery process set in motion.
The hackers' claims that they had stolen a total of 2TB of vital and sensitive data have not been verified.
The bank says it acted swiftly to secure its systems and start investigating the scope of the breach, while Gambian authorities say they will continue to monitor matters and have reassured the public that the bank is fully operational and national payment systems will be kept stable.
