Ogonahene and alumnus of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Nana Osei Boateng Agyenim is imploring the government and stakeholders to give utmost attention to vocational and technical education.
The introduction of TVET programmes in schools, he indicated, has the potential to transform the country’s economy.
The Ogonahene was speaking at the first-ever alumni homecoming celebration of Kumasi Technical University.
“We must channel all our energy and resource into vocational and technical training programmes as a developing nation. Technology and industrialization have become imperative instruments in modern economic modification. This is why I solely and heartily welcome the introduction of the TVET program into the Ghanaian educational system,” he stated.
The school was ranked first among the Technical universities in Ghana and 8th among all Ghanaian tertiary institutions in 2021 by Webometrics Ranking of world universities.
The Alumni Day celebration assembled alumni groups and personalities of all year groups.
The celebration is a build-up to formalize the alumni groups and build a vibrant association to foster the cause of the institution.
The Alumni day themed: “the role of alumni in the development of higher technical education” will create a healthy relationship between the alumni and the institution.
Abdallah Ali-Nakyea is a Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana School of law and alumnus of KsTU.
He entreated the alumni to reach out to the institution and members through the implementation of network avenues.
He believes an endowment fund would help the institution attain their needs.
“Put measures in place to fully benefit from their alumni. Implement professional and personal support through alumni outreach such as professional networking events and career services, continuous education opportunities and use of campus facilities.
“Identifying alumni who will assist students in their transition to the work environment through mentoring programs. Setting up an endowment fund into which alumni would provide steady financial support for the institution's academic programs and other needs,” he said.
The alumni constitution and continuation of IMC were proposed and accepted by the congress to elect an official executive.
